From a family who was all about the arts, Roger de Montebello's grandfather had worked with Salvador Dali on an optical 3-D project. His great-aunt Marie-Laure de Noailles was an early patron of Surrealism. His uncle Philippe headed the Metropolitan Museum of Arts. His brother Francis was an expressionist painter in New York in the 80's, and his uncle Rougemont was an active abstract artist in France.
